Scam pattern
Sample vs Bulk Quality Scam
Perfect samples, downgraded bulk production once payment clears.
Risk signals
- Sample is unusually high quality for the quoted price
- Resistance to a 3rd-party pre-shipment inspection
- Refusal to provide signed approved 'golden sample'
Real case example
An ecommerce seller approved a beautiful sample of wireless earbuds. Bulk shipment arrived with cheaper components, 40% failure rate within two weeks.
Warning signs
- Sample arrives in unbranded packaging from a different supplier
- Lead time suddenly shortens after payment
- Supplier refuses to sign a quality agreement
Prevention
- Lock the 'golden sample' with both parties' signatures
- Mandate 3rd-party pre-shipment inspection in the contract
- Hold final payment until inspection passes
